The Microgrants Initiative, supported by the International Disability Alliance (2021–2026) under the project, “Upholding diversity and inclusion of all: advancing universal economic, social and cultural rights to leave no persons with disabilities behind in Southern Africa, in a world challenged by multiple crises”, directly addresses these critical gaps by providing targeted financial and technical support to grassroots OPDs.

This approach empowers OPDs to implement transformative, community-driven projects that promote the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ESCR) of persons with disabilities. Through small-scale grants, the initiative facilitates capacity building, strengthens OPD-led advocacy, encourages peer learning, and generates evidence-based knowledge aligned with IDA’s strategic priorities: movement strengthening, global advocacy, and knowledge generation.

- Grant size: USD 6,500 per OPD
- Duration: 6 months per project
Eligibility:
Eligible applicants must:
- Be a national or sub national OPD legally registered in one of the target countries.
- Be an organization of persons with disabilities as elaborated in General Comment No. 7 of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Have a basic level of organizational structure and financial oversight.
- Be committed to participating in learning activities and reporting obligations.
