The Kawamura Cultural Arts Promotion Foundation is launching Japan’s first socially engaged Art Support Grant Program.

Purpose

• The “Socially Engaged Arts Support Grant” will provide grants to socially engaged art projects in Japan that are committed to the community and society, create and work with local communities and residents, and aim to present and build a better social model. 
• The aim is to further deepen the relationship between art and culture and society, and contribute to the development and improvement of culture in Japan.

What is Socially Engaged Art?

• Socially Engaged Art (SEA) is a general term for artistic activities that actively engage with society and aim to bring about some kind of “change” in everything from people’s daily lives to existing social systems through a process of participation and dialogue.

Funding Information

• Grant amount and number of projects selected (total grant): 1–2-million-yen, 300,000-500,000 yen.

Eligibility:

They will accept applications from businesses that meet the following requirements.

• Any age or nationality
• Artists and groups engaged in artistic activities
