Blue Food Futures Fellowship Program

The Blue Food Futures is accepting applications for its Fellowship Program to empower early-career researchers dedicated to advancing the role of blue foods in global food systems transformation.

Blue food pathways and their interactions with climate and biodiversity goals, sustainable, equitable and resilient transitions in blue food systems and the engagement and nutritional implications of small-scale fisheries’ participation in global trade.

It is particularly suited to early-career scholars with a strong interest in climate change and biodiversity implications, sustainable, equitable and resilient blue food transitions and blue food trade, with project topics supported further through mentorship with the Blue Food Futures Program leadership team.

The awarded researcher will be known as a Blue Food Futures Fellow and will contribute to research that addresses critical questions about blue foods, fills knowledge gaps, and provides actionable insights to global food and climate initiatives, while helping connect scientific insights to evidence-based policy recommendations within the program. This position is for a six-month fixed term, with an anticipated requirement of approximately ten hours per week.

Fellows receive a six-month research stipend based at their home institution to support place-based research and policy engagement, along with mentorship from leading global experts in blue food research and policy.

They may also have opportunities to present research findings at international scientific and policy fora and will be integrated into a global network of blue food researchers, policymakers and practitioners.

  • Successful applicants will conduct applied research on key blue food challenges, collaborate in scientific working groups, deepen knowledge in a selected topic area and co-develop an agreed publication with the leadership team.

Eligibility:

  • The opportunity is open to early-career researchers, professionals and practitioners from academia, government, non-governmental organizations and the private sector who have received a PhD in a related field within the last five years or are PhD candidates close to completion.
