CFPs: AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants for Junior Researchers

The African-German Network of Excellence in Science is pleased to announce its Intra-Africa Mobility Grants for Junior Researchers to strengthen the scientific capacity and networking of young researchers in Africa through the active cooperation of AGNES and potential AGNES members.

.

The AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Programme offers two categories of funding opportunities for emerging scholars: the General AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants, which are open to both male and female junior researchers and the Special AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants, which are exclusively available to female junior researchers.

.

These grants support doctoral candidates to undertake research stays of one to two months at a host institution in another sub-Saharan African country, enabling collaboration with an experienced scientific host.

.

The research conducted must form part of the applicant’s doctoral work, including laboratory activities, bench work, library research or thesis writing. The programme emphasizes the relevance of the research to the development of sub-Saharan African countries and requires applicants to justify why the proposed work cannot be carried out at their home institution.

.

Funding Information

  • A maximum grant amount of EUR 2,300 for one month, EUR 2,650 for one and a half months, and EUR 3,000 for two months is available, covering travel, living costs and a research allowance for the host institution.

Eligibility:

  • Eligible applicants must be nationals of sub-Saharan African countries, officially registered as doctoral students and must have published at least one article from their thesis in a non-predatory journal indexed in SCOPUS or Web of Science.
  • Each applicant must secure a scientific host and present a mutually agreed-upon proposal and work plan.
  • Female candidates may apply for both grants but can receive only one, while male candidates may apply only for the general programme.

AGNES welcome applications from eligible candidates from these under-represented countries: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Angola, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Congo Kinshasa (DRC), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Lesotho, Botswana, Mozambique, Maurutius, Mauritania, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe. AGNES Governing Board will aspire to achieve 50% inclusion of female researchers on the basis of merit.
