The ¥5,000,000 Green Future Innovation Challenge (GFIC), co-organized by Vertex Ventures China and Temasek Foundation, is a climate tech competition that seeks innovative technological solutions from across the globe to address key sustainability challenges.

  • Energy:
    • Renewable energy: Transitioning to renewable energy sources
    • Grid modernization: Upgrading the power grid to accommodate more renewable energy and ensure grid stability is essential
    • Energy storage: Developing and implementing efficient energy storage solutions to address the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources like solar and wind
    • Battery recycling: Improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness of technologies for recycling batteries, especially those from electric vehicles
  • Industrial Decarbonization:
    • Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS): Developing and deploying CCUS technologies to capture and store carbon emissions from industrial processes
    • Energy efficiency: Improving energy efficiency across various industries to reduce overall energy consumption
    • Electrification: Promoting the electrification of industrial processes to reduce reliance on fossil fuels
  • Sustainable Agriculture:
    • Sustainable food: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from food production, and addressing the challenges that climate change poses to food systems
    • Sustainable agriculture: Improving agricultural processes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve yields
  • Pollution Reduction:
    • Air Pollution: Prevention or reduction of air pollutants e.g. particulate matter, sulphur oxides, nitrous oxides, carbon monoxide, ozone, volatile organic compounds
    • Water Pollution: Prevention or reduction of water pollutants e.g. heavy metals, organic pollutants

Eligibility:
  • Any company, group or individual, from any geography or background, with a suitable proprietary innovation and interest to conduct a proof-of-value pilot project in China, can apply, as long as:
    • The solution has reached Technology Readiness Level 6-9, and does not infringe other parties’ intellectual prop-erty rights
    • The project complies with the relevant provisions of China’s current laws, regulations, industrial policies or plans
