One Health IPC and AMS Training for Human and Agri-Food Systems in Africa

Applications are now open for the One Health IPC and AMS Training Programme to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement projects in antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control.

.

The content covers key theoretical and practical foundations for quality improvement, including behaviour change, implementation considerations, and measurement approaches. It outlines evidence-based AMS, IPC, biosecurity, and prudent antibiotic use interventions for both human and animal health sectors, along with quantitative and qualitative methods to assess antimicrobial use, patient and animal health, biosecurity, productivity, and the factors influencing the adoption of these interventions, all aligned with regional and global standards.

.

This opportunity supports the creation of a structured, bilingual training model delivered over two years, beginning with Training of Trainers sessions and followed by participant-level courses facilitated by those trained. At least one in-person session is required for each course, ensuring interactive learning and practical exposure for teams working in hospitals, veterinary systems, and agri-food settings.

.

The programme targets professionals such as clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, veterinarians, farm managers, microbiologists, epidemiologists, and other One Health practitioners working within LMICs in Africa. The applied component of the training enables participating teams to design quality improvement projects tailored to their institutional context, supported by structured mentorship during and after the training.

.

Proposals are expected to include a comprehensive pre-training phase with training needs assessments, curriculum development, and faculty recruitment, followed by implementation and an evaluation framework that measures knowledge gains and practical application of skills. Post-training activities must include mentorship, cascade training at country level where relevant, development of a final evaluation report, and submission of a complete resource package for future scaling.

.

Benefits

  • The project duration is set at thirty-six months, with a maximum available budget of USD 300,000, covering salaries, travel, training activities, SME costs, dissemination, and other eligible expenditures within the stipulated limits.
