The Fellowship will now take place annually. It enables an international writer to undertake an eighteen day long paid residency at Centre for Stories in Perth, Western Australia.

Aims
The Patricia Kailis International Writing Fellowship aims to:
- Enable access to emerging writers in Western Australia to writers of international reputation.
- Support the work of talented individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to ideas and practices that foster belonging and better cross-cultural understanding.
- Deepen and broaden the literary culture in Western Australia.
Funding Information
- The value of the fellowship is AUD $25,000 which will cover the following expenses:
- – Living allowance of $12,000.
- – Accommodation will be provided for 18 days.
- – Return economy airfare.
- – Travel expenses and accommodation for a short visit (3-4 days) to Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
- The fellowship will take place from 7 November to 25 November 2025.
Funding Conditions
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Stay in Western Australia for 18 days and work out of the Centre for Stories.
- Run one writing workshop.
- Spend 3-4 days n WA’s Kimberley region and engage with local writers and participate in an in-conversation event.
- Deliver a talk or participate in an ‘In Conversation” event at a public institution in Perth.
- Attend one donor event.
- While they will be expected to work towards a larger project, it is not a requirement that they complete any specific writing at the end of their time in Western Australia.
- Be available for any press interviews.
- Consent to Centre for Stories using headshots, biography, and other relevant materials for marketing and promotional purposes.
- Provide a one-page summary of what has been achieved at the end of the fellowship.
- Acknowledge Centre for Stories and the Patricia Kailis International Writing Fellowship in any publications resulting from this fellowship.
Eligibility:
- The Fellowship is open to fiction, non-fiction, poetry and short story writers who work in English.
- Applicants must have at least two full-length publications published by a trade publisher. Applicants must demonstrate a connection to the Indian Ocean.
- Applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate (including higher degree by research) university course are not eligible.
