Right Sharing of World Resources (RSWR) invites small, grassroots women’s self-help groups in Kenya to embark on a journey of growth and empowerment through a two-stage partnership that blends training with sustainable financial support.
.
The first step, “Preparing the Soil,” offers a free training program led by RSWR’s Kenyan Country Coordinators, designed to strengthen group leadership, management skills, savings practices, and an understanding of best business practices and revolving loan systems.
.
Completing this foundational training opens the door to the next stage, “Planting the Seeds,” where groups may be awarded a financial grant of up to US $6,500. This support enables groups to create a revolving loan fund to lend to members, fostering small business ventures with the expectation that borrowers repay with reasonable interest so the fund can be reinvested and expanded. This program operates as a three-year partnership, providing ongoing technical guidance and monitoring. After 18 months, groups can apply for an additional grant of up to US $3,000 to help scale and enhance their work.
.
Eligibility:
- Participating groups must be women-led, with only women in leadership roles managing the group and any bank accounts.
- They should have been established no more than twenty years ago, consist of roughly twenty to thirty-five members, and operate in select counties of Kenya—including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Nandi, Trans-Zoi, and Uasin-Gishu.
- Groups with limited access to external resources—typically with an annual income under US $4,000—and those able to demonstrate sound financial practices through a year-end financial report are especially encouraged to apply.
- RSWR also views diversity and the continued commitment of groups that reapply favorably—even if previously unfunded.
